Začal sa obracať na veľké impériá, ktoré už síce neexistujú, no majú rešpekt v očiach ruského prezidenta, pretože majú bohaté dejiny a z historického pohľadu nie sú žiadne pochybnosti o ich pôvode a histórii.
Vladimír Putin sa tak rozhodol obrátiť s prosbou o pomoc na Rímsku ríšu. Podľa neho, ich katapulty dokázali dobývať mestá oveľa efektívnejšie ako súčasní ruskí vojaci. „Pokiaľ ide o našu techniku v porovnaní s katapultami, nie je veľký rozdiel v úrovni. Je to už jedno či hodíš raketu, alebo hádžeš skaly ako buran“, nechal sa počuť Lavrov, s tým, že obavy, že ruskí vojaci si s touto technikou nebudú vedieť poradiť, nie sú na mieste.
Je to krok, ktorý môže zaskočiť Západ aj Ukrajinu, pretože nikto iný by na niečo podobné neprišiel. Málokto tiež vie, ako sa efektívne brániť pred ostreľovaním veľkými skalami.
Ruský minister obrany Šojgu komentoval tento extravagantný nápad Putina so slovami: „Rímska ríša ešte stále neexistuje, ale keď bude znovu vzkriesená, môže to byť ešte zaujímavé.“
